BB2© – Clifford Packaging presents collapsible carry case
Jill Park, packagingnews.co.uk, 13 February 2009

Clifford Packaging has developed the next generation of its Bottle Buddie range with the launch of a collapsible corrugated carry case.

The as yet unnamed case can be used in the same way as the Bottle Buddie and carry up to six bottles or be adapted to suit a particular product.

It looks like a standard 0201 corrugated case, but the retailer can rip off the lid and collapse the case so it can be easily stored.

Milton Keynes-based Clifford Packaging has targeted the pack at brands and retailers and is open to licensing opportunities.

Innovations development manager Rowan Tinn said the case has been designed so that the retailer is only left with the lid of the box to recycle.

Tinn explained that as the lid only equated to about 20% of the case, which would help retailers "looking to reduce packaging waste" in line with the Courtauld Commitment.

So far, the company has sold six million units of the Bottle Buddie worldwide.

Box Clever

Supermarket giant Tesco will roll out retail-ready corrugated packaging for its entire wine range this year, reducing complexity within the supply chain.

The cases feature an illustration of the bottle’s label for easy product recognition by customers and replenishment of stock by store staff.

‘We are encouraging simplification of packaging solutions across our supply base,’ says Project Manager Linda Kerr. ‘As the size and complexity of our wine range has increased, we appreciate the need to make our products easy to recognise. Where the outer case is strong and colourful, this has a positive impact on product appeal.’

Clifford Packaging Ltd, based in Milton Keynes, UK, worked with Tesco to market its range of Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc.

The cardboard case is designed to fit onto existing packing lines. It can hold four or six bottles of wine, and features a built-in handle so that customers can lift it without the need for additional carriers.

Individual corrugated tooth and gap profile perforation makes the case easy to open.

Eighty per cent of lines are currently delivered in the new boxes.
